Our StoryÂ
As a physiotherapist working in a hospital, picking up a fallen walking aid was an everyday occurrence. Not only was it time-consuming, but I also witnessed numerous ‘near misses’ and ‘close calls’ from patients attempting to retrieve their walking aids from the ground. One day, coming home from work, I placed my mobile phone on my hands-free magnetic car mount, and it dawned on me: why does this not exist for walking aids? That moment sparked the idea — and the rest is history.Â

FallsÂ
Falls remain a pressing health issue in both the community and the healthcare system, and this challenge is only increasing with Australia’s growing and ageing population. In fact, around 1 in 3 adults over 65, and half of people over 80, will have at least one fall a year.Â
What role do walking aids play?Â
Walking aids are essential for preventing falls and allowing members of the community — who would not otherwise be able to walk — to do so safely. However, walking aids are rendered useless if they are inaccessible or not used in the manner intended.Â
Our SolutionÂ
STIC® – A magnetic walking aid holder that can be retrofitted to standard walking sticks or crutches. This attachment provides a secure housing space while the walking aid is not in use, preventing drops.Â
STIC® aims to reduce falls by increasing walking aid adherence and accessibility.
- A reduction in compromised positions from a fallen walking aid
- A reduction in trip hazards
- An easily accessible walking aid
- A stylish walking aid accessory to increase walking aid complianceÂ
